Amazon Product Research – Citrus Juicer
This is the first in our ongoing series of product research with a deep dive into the positives and negatives of an actual product on Amazon.
We use several of our favourite tools to collect the data and give each an overall score out of 10, based on several criteria including how easy this product is to launch for a new seller and the competition, etc.
Today – The Citrus Juicer from the Kitchen Category
Product: Citrus Juicer
Primary Category: Kitchen
First up, the good points
1. Rank
If we exclude the top six products, the average number of reviews of the rest of the products on page one is under two hundred yet they’re still selling pretty well.
It might be very hard to rank in the top three for this niche, but it’s not too hard to get on page one over time with over two hundred thousand searches for the main keyword terms alone.
There’s an opportunity to drive traffic from outside the Amazon ecosystem which is going to help boost your rankings.
2. Sales
The top ten items sell around five hundred thousand dollars worth of product a month each moving more than twenty five hundred units!
The average price point is just twenty three dollars but this is brought down by the non electronic juicers in the top ten.
Both manual and electric juicers do large volumes, so you could enter the market selling either one really.
Now, let’s take a look at the not so good points
1. Brands
The well known branded products in this category command higher prices as well as getting a sales boost from their recognition.
It may be hard to rank a competing private label electronic alternative because those brands are also going to be sold at Wal-Mart and other retailers in the U.S. and abroad allowing them to give factories much larger volume orders and get discounts for those bigger quantities.
2. Development
Making a new model of juicer is going to cost from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars because of all the parts that need to be designed and made individually.
The only option is going to be to source a product that is unique and also has all the certification needed for the US market.
Manual juicers are also expensive to develop. So the only option is to find a good existing model.
Overall Score: 5/10
Final Thoughts: This is a good volume market but it’s going to be hard to find a decent product for it.
Check out local large retailers (like WalMart in the U.S.) for similar products then try to find the original factory from the details on the packaging that way you might be able to ask the same factory for another model not yet widely available to private label.
